We’d love you to meet Shannon, our new Occupational Therapist (OT) (link opens in new window) who has recently joined our team at the Kites Children’s Therapy Centre in Bellerive.
Shannon and her boyfriend towed a U-Haul trailer some 4,000 km, all the way from Kalgoorlie (Western Australia) to start a new life in Tassie.
Shannon’s interest to become an OT was sparked at a young age, as her favorite uncle had Downs Syndrome and she saw firsthand how early intervention can dramatically increase the quality of a person’s life.
What Shannon enjoys most about being an Occupational Therapist is supporting people’s independence.
You are not doing things for people but finding ways for them to do things for themselves. You want to work yourself out of a job
Helping people solve problems, to enhance their quality of life, is the highlight of Shannon’s job. The work she does doesn’t just help the person, but the whole family. Putting simple strategies in place can make a huge difference in someone’s life.
What I love about the job is thinking creatively and getting to know people. It doesn’t matter where we come from, we all just want to be happy.
Shannon joined the VisAbility team for our fantastic workplace culture and wanted the opportunity and freedom to grow. Come and visit Shannon at the centre in Bellerive. To make an appointment call (03) 6245 9232 or contact Kites Tasmania (link opens in new window).
