Why Occupational Therapy?

By definition, an Occupational Therapist, or OT for short, helps people to regain or enhance independence in their daily lives. A paediatric OT aids children to achieve their development milestones such as fine motor skills, and educate and involve parents in order to achieve this.

Occupational Therapist Ashley Thompson is working her dream job at our sister organisation, Kites Children’s Therapy Centre (link opens in new window) in beautiful Bellerive Tasmania.

We asked Ashley what she loves about her career!

‘One of the things I love most about being a Paediatric Occupational Therapist is recognising and working with kid’s (clients) strengths so they can reach their goals. It changes the discussion from challenges to their unique skills and attributes. ‘

‘I also love supporting parents and equipping them with the resources so they can feel confident in understanding their child’s development’.

‘Occupational Therapy is great as it recognises that a lot of little things and considerations make up a day. I like working with details to figure out how we can make more good days for the client.’

‘I love Hobart! It’s so tiny compared to a big city, but you don’t feel like you are missing out on anything. You don’t have to drive for ages to enjoy the scenery, wherever you are the scenery is spectacular, just look out the window. It does get chilly but gives even more of an excuse to whip out the doona and sit by a cosy fire’.

My favourite part of working as an Occupational Therapist at VisAbility is working with the supportive team from different disciplines.

If you would love to join our team here in Hobart and live in one of the most sought after postcodes in Australia, we are looking for a motivated OT to join us.
